The Benefits of Mulching:

  • Prevents erosion
  • Protects plants from extreme temperatures
  • Improves soil structure by adding organic matter
  • Conserves water by helping soil retain moisture
  • Suppresses weeds
  • Adds beauty to landscape plantings

When mulch is hot to the touch, allow it to cool down before applying around your plants! For best results, a thorough watering should always be done immediately after planting or mulching.

Mulch Coverage

One yard of mulch covers a 10 x 10 foot area, 3 inches (0.25 feet) deep. To figure your yardage:

  1. Multiply length x width x depth. Remember to divide by 12 to convert inches to feet.
  2. Divide this total by 27
  3. Round up to the next whole number.

Example: 10 x 10 x .25 = 25, divided by 27 = 0.93. You would need 1 yard.
